Some random morning thoughts:
I read some advance reviews on this new CW show Hidden Palms (airing May 30th) yesterday. In short, it’s about a former stand up kid who watches his dad shoot himself in the head, gets on the drugs, goes to rehab, emerges as a long-haired “bad boy” and moves to Palm Springs with his mom. While he’s settling into his new posh neighborhood he learns that there’s recently been a murder that’s affected the entire community. What’s a teenage bad boy to do but investigate? Oh, and there’s also hot teenage girls who wear bathing suits gratuitously and are interested in our hero.
Jace, over at Televisionary, had some nice things to say about the pilot last year. And he’s still interested in spite of Hidden Palms’ horrible promo campaign. We’ll see. I’m smelling guilty pleasure.
There’s some good comics dropping this week.
Unofficial Joss Whedon week – The Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator has three comics dropping this week: Astonishing X-Men, Runaways #26, and Buffy: Season 8 #3. Throw down.
Marvel Illustrated: Last of the Mohicans – I’m mentioning this for Ian, for old times sake. God only knows what type of quality this Marvel Illustrated series will have.
Exterminators #17 – One of my favorite monthly titles. It came out last week, and now it’s coming out again this week. The guest artists the past couple months must have given Tony Moore a chance to catch up. It doesn’t get much better than mutated cockroaches making the next envolutionary step into nastiness. It’s an intelligent, sort of B Movie every month. For only 2.99 American.
Scalped #5 – Oh, man, you’re crazy if you’re not reading this new Vertigo series. It’s a crime/noir story that takes place on an Indian reservation. An 80 percent poverty rate and the highest unemployment and alcoholism rates in America makes for one hell of a backdrop for a crime series. Join bad ass Dashiel Bad Horse as he spends 22 pages scowling and busting heads on the rez.
I have an editorial meeting this afternoon to figure out the final roster for the anthology. It’s amazing how much content we have and unfortunate that we’ll have to deny some of the submissions to hit our page count for the publisher.
Still waiting to hear back from my manager on Bishop South. Fingers are crossed. This hurry up and wait mentality is pretty standard.
